Orthodontic Technology
Advances in technology are everywhere in today’s world. Advances in orthodontics over the years has meant that straightening out teeth and bite problems is now easier than ever before. We can move teeth around with less discomfort and in a shorter period of time than even just a few years ago. We use braces that are much smaller and much easier to keep clean than they used to be.
In our office we use only “self –ligating” braces. These braces have a built-in clip mechanism that allows us to open the clip, place the wire in the braces slot and then close the clip (instead of having to tie in the main wire with another wire or an elastic). The makes them easier to keep clean and because there is less friction than the old style of braces, the teeth move faster and with less discomfort. The SPEED bracket, shown in the animation at the left is the smallest of all these newer braces. We also use the Ormco DAMON bracket and the GAC INNOVATION brackets. These are larger braces , but the upper braces are available in a semi-clear version.
For some adult patients with relatively minor problems we can offer options that are almost invisible, such as the INVISALIGN® systems that is currently being advertised internationally. We also offer computer imaging technology so that you can see more clearly what orthodontic problems exist as well as the various methods we have available to deal with them. If a picture is worth a thousand words, computer imaging is worth many times that.
INVISALIGN is an AMAZING computer model based system for mildly crooked teeth INVISALIGN has more limitations than braces, and it tends to be more expensive. It can only be used in the full permanent Dentition (Adults), and it cannot correct moderate to severe “bite” problems. You can ask Dr. Boutin if it can be used in your case!
